What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

“Every existence has healing power. Plants, trees, animals, fish and insects, but especially a human as the lord of creation has remarkable power”... Usui sensei.

Reiki means “universal life force energy”. It is a Japanese word pronounced “ray-key”. Reiki means universal (rei) – life force energy (ki). The Reiki System is an ancient system of energy healing, simple and powerful. Reiki has elements based on Asian health and spiritual practices. The peoples of the eastern part of the world are more familiar with energy work for health benefits and to attain higher levels of spirituality. This life force energy is known by many names – prana, mana, chi, ki, cosmic pulse, etc.
Rather than acting solely on a physical level, Reiki is holistic in its effect - eliciting a healing response on the entire spectrum of ones being - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Anyone can learn to use the Reiki Healing System, it needs no qualifications for eligibility, only the will to learn.
The levels of our being are the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Life force flows within the physical and nourishes the organs and cells of the body. When this life force is disrupted, it causes the functions in one or more organs to lessen drastically thereby preventing them from functioning at their optimum levels. This life force is affected by thoughts and emotions. It becomes disrupted when we accept negative thoughts and emotions about ourselves. These negative thoughts and emotions cause a disruption in the flow of life force. And when the body, mind and soul become imbalanced, illness happens.
Imbalances can be caused from many situations occurring in our lives, such as emotional trauma, lack of nutrition, high stress lifestyle, negative thoughts like fear, worry, anger, doubt, anxiety, suppressed emotions, lack of love for yourself or others.
If we are to be truly well, our entire being has to be in harmony and balance. Without the intention to be well and the will to do something about it we cannot become well. Reiki empowers us to become whole in all ways. When you have Reiki, you are never again helpless. You become responsible for yourself and your life. Reiki empowers you to take charge of your life, health and complete well-being.

Treatments can help to heal every kind of physical problem such as sports injuries, back problems and serious illness or disease. Reiki can also be used to heal stress, aid weight loss or gain, depression, PMS and all forms of emotional distress. Reiki treatments can help you cope during times of upheaval and change. Reiki is simple enough to use as a way to revitalize yourself and boost your energy levels, or to improve your health and well-being.

Reiki complements other forms of treatment such as allopathy and alternative medicine. It can be used while you are on medication with medicines such as Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, etc. Reiki treatments complement any other kind of treatment or therapy, in both people and animals. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive hands-on form of healing which can never harm and always benefits those who receive it. Treatments generally last around an hour.
Reiki is not something magical. The basic principle on how Reiki energy heals is very similar to how healing works in acupuncture. We know that every living being has energy within and around the body to be alive. This energy is called Chi (vital energy) and it is vital for the physical body to exist. The physical body usually has problems because the energy does not flow properly. By stimulating the energy to flow properly as it is supposed to, the natural ability of the body to heal itself will be able to function again, and the physical body will recover. Reiki healing is able not only to stimulate the energy to flow properly but also to cleanse the energy within and around the body to speed up the healing process. In the Kirlian photos(*) below, you can see the energy around the fingertip of a patient before and after Reiki healing.
               Before healing
The bright outer layer which normally acts as a protective layer (aura) is gone fading and has a lot of negativity
         After healing
The energy is cleaner and the aura
          is intact again
(*) Kirlian photos are not simulation photos. The Kirlian camera has been used as radiology equipment.
Reiki is not based on any religion. Belief in a spiritual or religious system is not required for the effective practice of Reiki. It is universal energy that anyone can learn to channel to heal themselves or others.
I live in Mumbai, India. I conduct in-person Reiki Training and Healing and also do Distance Attunements and Healing. I teach Reiki I, II, III, Master Level IV and  Usui Grand Master Reiki Levels V and VI. I do Intuitive Readings, Chakra Clearing and Balancing, Dowsing, Energy Clearing of homes, work-places. I am a Clairvoyant and offer Spiritual Guidance.
" It is not associated with any visible material being.", Takata sensei, "It's an unseen spiritual power that radiates vibration and lifts one into harmony. This power is incomprehensible to man, yet every single living being is receiving its blessings..."

BASIC TECHNIQUE FOR OPENING CHAKRAS

BASIC TECHNIQUE FOR OPENING CHAKRAS

There are many, many ways to meditate. Most schools of meditation and self-healing suggest that in order to gain the most benefits from these self-improvement techniques is to work with the body's chakras.

What is a chakra? A chakra is an energy point or energy center (called a vortex). Each vortex regulates certain portions of the body. When these vortexes are out of sync the body reflects this by becoming ill or decayed.

The method of meditation I find works best for myself and for the people. You can take this method and adapt it to your own needs and special requirements, but I find it to be the easiest and least complex.

Each chakra is "seen" to be represented by a different color. I will also include the color of each.

First let us go over the 7 chakras:

Crown of the head - white

Forehead-third eye - purple

Throat - azure or sky blue

Heart - either green or pink

Navel - yellow, like warm sunshine

Below navel, between navel and groin - orange

Groin area - crimson red

Extremeties (hands and feet) - white

Opening and working with chakras takes a bit of practice. But is is worth the effort. Believe me on this! When you are ready to open the chakras, select a location where you can either sit or lie down comfortably and where you will not be interrupted for at least an hour. Wear comfortable clothing - not pajamas! (You'll fool your body into thinking you're going to sleep!)

Begin by breathing regularly and evenly. Take several deep breaths. Begin by relaxing your toes, your ankles, your legs. Relax your hips, your shoulders, your neck. Relax your arms and your hands. This is the time that your body will start the twinge-tingle dance (as I call it) It'll twinge and tingle and itch. Try to ignore this. This is just your body's way of telling you it's not used to relaxing. Soon enough it will become accustomed to it.

Now is the time that you will use your visualization skills. Imagine that your are a fountain of light or a waterfall. See how the water or the light starts at the top of your head and covers your chest and eventually covers your whole body. See how you become a living ball of light. This should be the first and only exercise you attempt. Do not be disappointed if this image does not come immediately. Ideally you should practice this for about one week.

Once you have pretty much gotten the waterfall effect down, you are ready for the next step.

Perform your relaxation technique. This time you will follow up the fountain/waterfall exercise by opening up your chakras.

Begin at the top/crown of your head. See a white light that emanates from this area. Spin downward and toward your forehead, where your third eye is. See it's purple light rotate and bloom much like a flower. Continue downward to the throat chakra, where a beautiful azure blue blooms and spins. Go now to your heart chakra. Here you may see either a green light or a warm pink ball. Either way, see how it glows and spins. You should notice how all the colors are now merging, almost into a rainbow effect. Move down to your navel, where a bright yellow glow will spin and join the other colors. Below the navel, above the groin, find your next chakra, a warm orange. It spins and blooms. Finally the last chakra, at the groin area, a deep crimson red. See it glow, spin and join the other colors. Your fingers and toes will glow a white light. They too will join the rainbow effect.

When you are finished and are ready to close your chakras, imagine a large zipper the length of your body. You must close the zipper in order to close the chakras. Never leave the chakras open. Take several deep breaths and open your eyes.

Check how you feel. Do you feel energized or tired? Did you have problems visualizing the colors and the fountain of light? If you did, not to worry. You might need a little more practice. However, if you consistently fail in visualizing or are falling asleep during the meditation, check for possible causes. Are you meditating when you are very tired? Is the lighting too harsh? (use soft lighting, candlelight is excellent) Use soft music, classics or "new age" like Enya or Enigma. Are you being interrupted? Is there a lot of noise out on the street? If your problem is visualizing, don't despair. Every person who learned meditation experienced this. Practice.

Once you have mastered this technique, you will find it is an excellent technique that can be combined with magickal workings.

I'd like to share a personal tidbit, which I have used for years and tell everybody I know:

If you are ill, head cold, chest cold, sore throat, fever, tooth ache, etc, open the affected chakra. (if you are suffering from a head cold, open that chakra) Imagine a black ball floating upward from your feet to the "sick" area. Let the black ball sit over the affected chakra while it draws out the illness. You will see that the color of the chakra may be off or even spotted with black dots. This black ball will serve as a vaccumm or sweeper to eliminate these spots. You can see as the ball works the color of the chrakra begins returning to normal. Try it!

Self Healing

Self Healing

No doctor, no drug, no object has ever truly healed anyone. They can only assist if they act in harmony with the Laws of Nature.

Our mind body system is designed to HEAL ITSELF. All we need to do is to REMOVE OBSTACLES from the body and from the mind. This can be accomplished with or without the help of others.

If you cut your finger with a sharp object, the wound HEALS ITSELF and if the damage is not extensive, the repair job is SO perfect, that after a few weeks you cannot even remember which finger was hurt. Even the fingerprints are reconstructed.

Of course self-healing is not limited to scratches and bruises. Exactly the same self-healing processes occur ALL THE TIME in ALL POSSIBLE organs of the body.

Even if we abuse our body, it tries to heal itself, unless the damage is extensive and we continue doing mistakes for years. Severe illnesses are largely result of our complete ignorance on both: the physical level (diet, poisoning, lifestyle) as well as on the mental level (bad mental hygiene and discipline, wrong understanding of purpose of life). Pain and suffering are just signals to our conscious mind that we have to CHANGE our ways. When we do, in the right direction, we "miraculously" recover. When we follow the flock, and resist Nature, we suffer. This is the law of Nature.

The mind-body system has almost unlimited self repair capabilities, but most of people deny themselves any access to them.

The biggest mistake you can make is to ACCEPT someone's "advice" that your condition is incurable. If you accept such an advice, your fear effectively SABOTAGES the self-healing process, which is under complete control of your consciousness on all levels, including the subconscious functioning of your body and mind. Fear blocks any logic, dramatically reducing your own self healing ability.

There is nothing the Universe to be afraid of, except our own ignorance and its consequences. Unfortunately most people doubt everyone and everything, except their own ignorance.

How to See Auras?

How to See Auras?

Before we get into teaching you how to see auras, let's start by getting a good working definition of what an aura actually is.

The definition of auras varies depending on who you ask. Some believe the aura does not exist, while others believe auras are almost a window into a person’s soul or heart. Many might say that unless you know how to see auras, it really does not matter what other people think they look like, but that is not 100% true, because many people that cannot physically see auras with their eyes, can feel the colours within an aura as it touches their body.

So if you are have problems learning to see auras, trying learning how to feel colours instead.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:
A distinctive but intangible quality that seems to surround a person or thing; atmosphere

From the Free Dictionary:
In parapsychology, an emanation surrounding the human body, particularly the head. The aura is said to be visible to clairvoyants and other similarly psychic individuals. It is believed to be the prototype of the halo.

The aura has been described as a misty light, shot with colours that change according to mood and circumstances. The term is more often used figuratively.

But those are just definitions. What are we actually seeing when we see an aura? Most agree there are at least two distinct parts to an aura. Both are emanations of the electronic energy our body runs off of, but part of it is from the electricity used by our bodies, and the other part is from the electricity used by our brains.

The body part of the auras electronic field is what allows those sensitive to the energies to be able know where illness or injury resides in the body while the brain portion is what allows those sensitive to the energies to know our emotions, creativity, intentions, etc., etc.

What does an aura look like?

An aura is an emanation of energy and is usually seen as a "glow" of energy extending out from the body. The intensity can vary from barely visible to brightly coloured and can extend outward from the body anywhere from a couple of inches up to a foot or more. This however is just the visible part. Many believe that our auras allow us to stay connected to all the other energies around us and that various psychic signals are picked up via the aura and sent to the brain to be processed as the sights and sounds we psychically receive.

An aura can range from almost pure white to virtually any colour you can imagine. Sometimes an aura will be a solid colour, but more often than not, there are spots, swirls, or slashes of other colours within the main colour of the aura.

The main concentration of colour tends to be around the head and shoulders and often this is the first place a beginner is able to see an aura. However, the entire body is surrounded by an aura and with time you can learn to see all of it.

Why so much Variations in Auras?

Remember what I said about auras being an emanation of energy? Different people have different energy levels so of course there would be variations in the size of their auras, but it goes beyond just a person’s normal energy level. Sickness can change a person’s energy level and aura. Being excited can make a change. Almost any emotion can change the strength and/or colour of an aura.

Some people believe that when we have advanced far enough in our evolution, we will be able to know and understand the mood someone is in and whether or not a person is lying, just by looking at their aura. On the surface, that sounds like a wonderful thing, but is it really? Do you truly want everyone to know every time you tell a little white lie? But that is another story for another time.

To Look or Not to Look

Without going into a lot of detail on how the eye works, an over simplistic description follows.

When we look at an object, we use a specific portion of the retina. Over time that main portion of the retina becomes damaged from all the various sources of light that we look at on a regular basis. This is why younger people tend to more easily see auras than older persons, because their retinas are not as damaged.

Plus, in time our eyes become trained to see in specific ways. We expect to see all the normal everyday things we see on a regular basis and our vision is not adjusted to see anything else. Again, as we get older, this becomes more set making it harder to learn, but not impossible.

For those reasons, in most people it is best to use your Peripheral vision to look at an object to see it's aura. But notice I said for "most" people, it is best for some, not all. Like everything else in life, everyone is different, so only you can determine if it is better to use your normal vision or your peripheral vision.

I suggest you try it according to the following instructions. If after several tries, you have not learned how to see auras, try adjusting where in your frame of vision the object is at.

Most people can see anything that is within the field of vision that is roughly between point a and point b in the picture below. Some people can see a little beyond those two points and others cannot see that far, but unless a person suffers with some sort of eye problems, this is a reasonable estimate.

When we look at something with our normal vision, we usually move our heads so the object we are looking at is directly between our eyes, in the center of our field of vision because this is where we have the best view of the object.

The part of our vision starting directly to the left or right of center, and moving all the way to the furthers point at a or b is called the peripheral vision and for most people the further away from absolute center we go, the worse our vision becomes.

But saying the worse our vision becomes is not a completely true statement. It is true when we are speaking of looking at solid objects in our normal world. But an aura is not a solid object, it is a collection of energy and we humans cannot see energy with our normal way of looking.

Yet our bodies are designed to be able to see this energy. To do so requires you to look at a person or object, not with the main part of your vision (see c in the photo) but with our peripheral vision.

To do this, put the object in the c position in front of you, looking straight at it. Then keep your eyes looking straight out from your head and turn your head slightly to one side till the object is in one of the many d positions.

Anywhere between (a and c) and (c and b) is a d position. There are an unlimited number of d positions. Keep your eyes focused straight out in front of you. You will still be able to see the object in your peripheral vision and it is within these positions you will begin to learn how to see auras.

Try not to start and do not allow your vision to look directly at the object or person. Relax your eyes and if need be, allow them to unfocused. Soon you will start to see movement or colour around the object/person. Just keep your eyes relaxed and prevent your vision from focusing on the object/person and when you find the right combination of all of the above, you will see an aura.

Tips on how to see auras

When you are just beginning to learn how to see auras, it is best to try with a person simply because their auric field tends to be stronger than an object. It is also best to have the person stand in front of a solid white wall if possible. This helps make the auric field show up easier than if it was showing over a coloured background.

That is it for this lesson on how to see auras. I hope you have enjoyed the lesson and remember to practice often because practice makes perfect.

Grounding and Centering Meditation

Grounding and Centering Meditation

This is a quick grounding meditation. You should practice this to balance your energy, release anxiety, or any time you feel like screaming.

Sit peacefully and relax. Let the ground or chair support you. Let your muscles go. You don't have to exert any effort to sit there. Take in an easy, deep breath...and let it out your mouth, parting your lips slightly as you exhale.

Let your arms feel heavy, pulling down your shoulders. Breathe... Let that heavy feeling flow down your torso and legs, so you feel heavy and relaxed all the way down to your feet on the ground.

Now picture and feel roots growing from your feet down into the ground. Just like a tree's roots...going down into the layers of cool dirt...growing around rocks...traveling further and further down into the earth. Let the roots grow as deeply as you wish.

Now feel the healing, rhythmic energy of the earth itself flowing up through your roots...slowly traveling up...through your roots, up to your feet and quickly filling your entire body. Feel this positive, grounded, earth energy throughout your being. Take in a deep, cleansing breath... and release.

When you are ready, open your eyes and know that this grounded energy will remain with you throughout your day.

Enjoy!!!

White Light Meditation

White Light Meditation

This is a wonderful, recharging meditation. This is great for cleansing and recharging yourself after energy work. There are many different variations of this meditation.

Sit or lie comfortably.

Take a deep, slow breath in and slowly exhale out.  With each breath in and out, allow your body to relax more, and more, and more. Let your body sink into the chair or floor.

Focus on your Crown area and allow it to open to receive the energy from this ball of white light. As you open your Crown Chakra to receive this energy you feel completely at ease, completely safe.

Draw down this white light energy into your forehead, your eyes, nose, cheeks, and chin.

Draw down this white light energy into your throat, shoulders, elbows, wrists, to each and every finger, Feel the energy in your fingertips right now. Feel it tingle with energy and excitement.

Draw down the white light energy to your chest, hips, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, into each and every toe. Feel the toes tingle as the energy fills them.

Picture this white light energy filling up your entire body. You are the white light energy, and you will now expand yourself. With each breath in and out expand your white light energy to outside your body. Fill up the room, the building, the neighborhood, the city, the state, the country, the world, the universe. You have expanded throughout the entire galaxy!

When you are ready to return, bring your energy back into the building, into your body. Allow yourself time to adjust once more to your physical form and when ready, open your eyes. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Stretch both arms. Overhead and take a big, deep breath in and slowly release again.

Enjoy!!!

10 Amazing Tricks to Play with your Brain

10 Amazing Tricks to Play with your Brain

Mind is the aspect of intellect and consciousness experienced as combinations of thought, perception, memory, emotion, will and imagination, including all unconscious cognitive processes. Mind manifests itself subjectively as a stream of consciousness. Neuroanatomists usually consider the brain to be the pivotal unit of what we refer to as mind. The Human Brain tricks us whenever it can. You don’t actually see what it is in real or you don’t even actually hear or smell the way it should be. Here is the time to play trick with the human brain. I assure here, trying them is completely safe.

10. Ganzfeld Procedure

At first this might sound like a bad practical joke. Begin by tuning a radio to a station playing static. Then lie down on a couch and tape a pair of halved ping pong ballsover your eyes. Within minutes you should begin to experience a bizzare set of sensory distortions.

Some people see horses prancing in the clouds or hear the voice of a dead relative. It turns out that the mind is addicted to sensation so that when there’s little to sense (that’s the purpose of ping pong balls and static) your brain ends up inventing its own.

9. Shrink your Pain

In case you experience an injury, then see the injured part with an inverted binoculars, soon your pain will seem to be decreasing in its magnitude.

Recently, a reasearch at Oxford University has lead to the discovery of a new pain killer – the inverted binoculars. The scientists demonstrated that the subjects who looked at their wounded hands through wrong end of the binoculars, making the hand appear smaller, experienced significantly less pain and decreased swelling. According to the researchers, this demonstrates that even basic bodily sensations such as pain are modulated by what we see. So next time if you stub your toe or cut a finger, do yourself a favour, look away!

8. Confuse your Proprioreception

This requires two chairs and a blind fold. The person wearing the blindfold should sit in the rear chair, staring at the back of the person sitting in the front. The blindfolded person then reach around and place his hand on the nose of the other person. At the same time he should place his other hand on his own nose and begin gently stroking both noses. After about 1 minute, more than 50% of the subjects report their nose as incredibly long. Therefore this is called Pinocchio’s Effect.

The Pinocchio effect  is an illusion that ones nose is growing longer, as happened to the literary character, Pinocchio when he told a lie. It is an illusion of proprioception, reviewed by Lackner (1988).

To explain the effect the other way, a vibrator is applied to the biceps tendon while one holds one’s nose with the hand of that arm. The vibrator stimulates muscle spindles in the biceps that would normally be stimulated by the muscle’s stretching, creating a kinesthetic illusion that the arm is moving away from the face. Because the fingers holding the nose are still giving tactile information of being in contact with the nose, it appears that the nose is moving away from the face too, in a form of perceptual capture. Similar phenomenon happens using the blindfolded method.

7. Confuse your Mindedness

Lift your right foot a few inches from the floor and then begin to move it in a clockwise direction. While you’re doing this, use a finger your right index finger to draw a number 6 in the air. Your foot will turn in an anticlockwise direction and there’s nothing you can do about it!

The left side of your brain, which controls the right side of your body, is responsible for rhythm and timing. The left side of your brain cannot deal with operating two opposite movements at the same time and so it combines them into a single motion.

Try this with your right foot and left hand and you should have no problem!

6. Confuse your Hearing

This can be performed with three people, one being subject and other two objects/ observers and we also need a headset connected to routine plastic pipes on the either side. Ask the subject to sit on a chair equidisant between you and the second observer. Now each one of you hold the pipes from the headset on the corresponding sides and one by one speak into the pipes. The subject will rightly tell the direction of the sound. Now exchange the pipes and repeat voicing into the pipes. The subject’s brain will get confused and he’ll point in the opposite direction of sound.

Sound localization is a listener’s ability to identify the location or origin of a detected sound in direction and distance or the methods in acoustical engineering to simulate the placement of an auditory cue in a virtual 3D space. The human auditory system has only limited possibilities to determine the distance of a sound source, mainly based on inter-aural time differences, exchanging the pipes would cause perception by the opposite sided neurons in the brain only and thus the subject will not be able to localize the sound.

5. Confuse your Depth Perception

Depth perception is the visual ability to perceive the world in three dimensions (3D). Looking at a sight that you have not seen before or entering into a 3d cinema with one eyes closed will alter the way your mind perceives things.

This would not happen for most already seen things because your brain is tuned to judge the time and space accurately. However, your brain will not be able to fill the gap if you use one eye. Depth perception arises from a variety of depth cues. These are typically classified into binocular cues that require input from both eyes and monocular cues that require the input from just one eye. Binocular cues include stereopsis, yielding depth from binocular vision through exploitation of parallax. Since (by definition), binocular depth perception requires two functioning eyes, a person with only one functioning eye has no binocular depth perception. And hence stepping into a 3d cinema will not be an amazing phenomenon as it used to be. This is more so in people who are blinded with one eye by birth.

4. Feel a Phantom Sensation

Phantom sensations are described as perceptions that an individual experiences relating to a limb or an organ that is not physically part of the body. Sensations are recorded most frequently following the amputation of an arm or a leg, but may also occur following the removal of a breast or an internal organ.

3. 18000 Hz Sine Wave

Try hearing this sound. It is called “under 20s” sound as the elder’s can’t perceive it. It is a sine wave at 18,000 Hz (by comparison, a dog whistle sounds at 16,000 – 22,000 HZ – meaning a dog can hear this sound as well). This sound is used by some teenagers as a ring tone on their cellphone so that only they (and others of their age group ofcourse) can tell when the phone is ringing. It is also occasionally used in England to play very loud in areas that authorities don’t want teens to congregate in, as the noise annoys them.

The inner ear of the humans have a functional design to hear sounds in a range of a frequency. Hearing is not merely a function of ears but the oscillation amplitude is conducted to the brain. As people get older they lose the ability to hear higher pitched sounds. As people get older they lose the ability to hear higher pitched sounds – that is the reason that only young people can hear this sound – it is too high for most people over the age of 20.

2. Confuse your photoreception

Stare at the central point (plus sign) of the black and white picture for atleast 30 seconds and then look at a wall near you, you will see a bright spot, twinkle a few times, what do you see? or even who do you see?

Stare at the eye of the red parrot while you slowly count to 20, then immediately look at one spot in the empty birdcage. The faint, ghostly image of a blue-green bird should appear in the cage. Try the same thing with the green cardinal, and a faint magenta bird should appear.

When an image is looked at for a length of time (usually around 30 seconds) and then replaced with a white field, one type pf an effect called an afterimage can be seen. The common explanation given for an afterimage is that the photoreceptors (rods and cones) in the eye become “fatigued”, and do not work as well as the those photoreceptors that were not affected (the “fatigue” is actually caused by the temporary bleaching of the light sensitive pigments contained within the photoreceptors) This results in the information that is provided by the photoreceptors not being in balance, causing the afterimages to appear. As the photoreceptors become less “fatigued”, which takes between ten and thirty seconds, the balance is recovered, resulting in the afterimage disappearing.

Now do another trick to confuse your photoreceptors. This will temporarily blind you from one eye (for around 30 seconds and don’t worry it is of no harm) Go into a room, shut the door and turn out the lights so that the room is mostly dark. Wait until your eyes adapt to the darkness. You should be able to make out the basic shapes of the room from the tiny bit of light coming in from under the door. Next, close your right eye and cover it with your hand. Turn the light on, keeping your eye closed and covered. Leave the light on for about a minute or until your left eye has adapted to the light. Uncover your eye and look around the darkened room.

What do you see? What you might experience is an illusion discovered by researcher Uta Wolfe in which it seems that your left eye is closed, even though it is open.

The explaination to this is the visual cycle that takes time to be adapted, when it is not adapted as for the left eye, the eye will send wrong signals to the brain thus image would be darkened for the left eye until it adapts.

1. Confuse your Cognition

Take a look at the spinning girl. Do you see it spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise? I see it spinning counter-clockwise, but i was able to switch it in the other direction, its hard for many people. Give it a try.

The spinning girl is a form of the more general spinning silhouette illusion. The image is not objectively “spinning” in one direction or the other. It is a two-dimensional image that is simply shifting back and forth. But our brains did not evolve to interpret two-dimensional representations of the world but the actual three-dimensional world. So our visual processing assumes we are looking at a 3-D image and is uses clues to interpret it as such. Or, without adequate clues it may just arbitrarily decide a best fit – spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. And once this fit is chosen, the illusion is complete – we see a 3-D spinning image.

By looking around the image, focusing on the shadow or some other part, you may force your visual system to reconstruct the image and it may choose the opposite direction, and suddenly the image will spin in the opposite direction.
